The Social Media Specialist provides planning and execution of digital and social media communications efforts at increasing NY State of Health’s overall social media presence and providing social media customer support.

Experience with Social Tools such as but not limited to Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Simply Measured or Salesforce/Social Studio is required. In Addition, knowledge of Content Creation, Reporting & Analytic Programs, Editorial Calendars and Target Messaging is preferable.


  • Develop and execute tactical plan in support of the NY State of Health strategic plan, using digital media (including website integration), Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Hootsuite, and YouTube to increase visibility and enhance image of NY State of Health with consumers, businesses, key opinion leader, and new media.
  • Partner with and monitor internal and external agency relationships relative to the successful integrated implementation of social media strategy, platform management and administration required to manage social media accounts, communities and campaigns. 
  • Plan and manage day-to-day online social media components that contribute to the overall communications mission and positively maintain the NY State of Health brand.
  • Identify and utilize appropriate analytics tools (including Google Analytics, Brandwatch, Twitter Analytics, EdgeRank Checker and/or other relevant tools) to measure communications effectiveness and make recommended adjustments.
  • Build relationships with online contributors that have positive influence in the Healthcare industry.
  • Ensure that NY State of Health remains the central source of information through close monitoring and development of proactive and reactive digital and social media communications
  • Draft the departmental weekly report of social media progress made against NY State of Health goals
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by management

The Ideal Candidate will Possess the Following Additional Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of social media experience
  • Experience in Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Hootsuite, Radian6, Brandwatch
  • Experience with social media crisis management preferred
  • Adobe Creative Suite and graphic design experience preferred
  • Google Analytics certification a plus
  • Responsible for adhering to established safety standards
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
  • Occasionally lifts, carries, or otherwise moves items weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Work is constantly performed in an office environment
