Project/Position Introduction

*This is a remote position that requires working from a home office.


The Sr. Manager of Business Analysis is a critical function of the corporate -wide MAXIMUS Business Intelligence (BI) organization. Reporting to the Director of Business Analysis the position leads a team of analysts in BI requirements discovery and definition. The position works closely with technical colleagues to ensure that BI solutions deployed in MAXIMUS projects across the country achieve desired results.


The Sr. Mgr. works hand-in-hand with MAXMUS operations staff on-site to ensure BI deployments are well – understood. Additionally the position and his /her staffs directly produce and use a range of data visualizations and analytic methods including statistical analyses designed to uncover opportunities or solve operational problems.


  • Manage day-to-day activities of BI analysts; communicate priorities, peer-review analyst deliverables (as needed); ensure work is on-time and within budget, communicate status and escalates risks/issues timely. Mentor and train on MAXIMUS processes, source systems, and cascade standards and best practices to the team.
  • Manage and ensure process documentation including business requirements, use case documentation, test plans, and report specifications are maintained; conduct peer reviews to ensure standards and best practices are followed, process documentation is accurate, correctly detailed, and maintained and organized in the appropriate repository.
  • Oversee the design, execution and evaluation of rigorous test plans to ensure source data are accurately represented in presentation objects (dashboards/reports) and data are ‘fit for use’.
  • Facilitate discussion among process stakeholders (both technical and non-technical) to elicit, analyze, communicate (both written and verbally) and validate requirements, process design, and business intelligence/reporting needs.
  • Mentor, train, and provide guidance, background information, and assistance to operational managers, analysts and other staff on standards and best practices in the following areas:  business and operational analysis, and interpretation and effective use of process models, presentation objects and other analysis artifacts.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of analyses – often interrogating data and other information to perform root cause analysis, impact assessments, or to identify key measures and indicators of process performance making recommendations to improve or correct performance
  • Ensure requirements are met and intended benefits are realized through the effective use of data via a range of visualizations (e.g., dashboards, reports), and alerts while instituting standards and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate will Possess the Following Additional Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; field of study in Operations Research, Mathematics, Statistics, Industrial Engineering, Public Policy, Management Information Sciences, or other related field preferred.
  • Master’s degree in related field strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience successful use of analytic thinking, applying methods to determine root cause/solve problems. A demonstrated ability to interrogate data and communicate analysis findings to a technical and non-technical audience is essential.     
  • 10+ years’ successful application of process-driven analysis skills and requirements elicitation.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a management position with direct oversight of a team.
  • Strong analytical & quantitative skills, ability to “investigate” data (competency in statistics).
  • Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills (both written & verbal) with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • 25-50% Travel
