MAXIMUS Federal is seeking a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist to support a Defense activity  in Falls Church, VA. The Safety and Occupational Health Specialist will provide workplace safety consultation and Federal, State and local compliance guidance to all activity locations. They will effectively evaluate activity workplaces to determine workplace hazards, evaluate the effectiveness of workplace hazard controls, provide recommendations to improve hazard control and improve workplace safety efforts.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical advice and guidance on safety and occupational health (SOH) matters to all activity locations

  • Coordinate and support implementation and administration of SOH technical program elements, focusing on fall protection, training, policy development, accident investigation and reporting, hazard abatement and other SOH program elements

  • Assist in the inspections and evaluations of all activity workplaces for compliance with applicable Federal, State and local regulations and to identify potential new hazards

  • Recommend modifications to workplaces to control or eliminate hazards

  • Monitor and evaluate SOH programs and develops recommendations for improving compliance

  • Collect data on occupational injuries and illness and monitors and reports on employee occupational health problems

  • Assist with the development and promotion of SOH training and education

  • Prepare reports and/or briefings on current status of SOH program implementation and accomplishments

  • Attend and participate in safety councils, committees and working groups established by activity or higher authority

  • Conduct surveys and analyses to identify how safe facilities or sites are
  • Consult with operating personnel and other safety specialists to devise programs
  • Inspect, analyze, and evaluate safety and occupational health within the organization
  • Assess the adequacy of safety and occupational health programs
  • Recommend appropriate corrective action where safety requirements are not being observed
  • Be involved in and support occupational health programs
  • Support day to day safety operation

The Ideal Candidate will Possess the Following Additional Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Safety and Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene or a related field required, equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of degree
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in the safety and occupational health fields required
  • Specialized experience related to safety and occupational health that has equipped the applicant with particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills to both internal and external senior management
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications preferred 

Additional Requirements as per Contract/Client:

  • Must be United States Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
