Physical security is concerned with physical measures designed to safeguard personnel; to prevent unauthorized access to equipment, facilities, material, and documents; and to safeguard them against espionage, sabotage, damage, and theft. Physical security also provides the criteria for the levels and types of armed security forces required for response and containment.


Work in this security function is concerned primarily with the physical protection of sensitive or classified information, personnel, facilities, installations, or other sensitive materials, resources, or processes against criminal, terrorist, or hostile intelligence activities. Physical security specialists develop security policy and design, develop, evaluate, and sometimes install protection systems and devices to insure that sensitive information, equipment, and other material is not compromised, sabotaged, stolen, misused, or subjected to terrorist, malicious mischief, or other acts of willful interference.



  • Conduct surveys and analyses to identify how critical and vulnerable facilities or sites are
  • Consult with operating personnel and other security specialists to devise protection systems
  • Inspect, analyze, and evaluate security systems within the organization
  • Assess the adequacy of inventory and management control systems
  • Recommend appropriate corrective action where security requirements are not being observed
  • Be involved in and support integration of security considerations and systems
  • Support day to day physical security operations

The Ideal Candidate will Possess the Following Additional Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management or related field from an accredited college or university required; equivalent years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Minimum of four (4) years in physical security support
  • Knowledge of physical security standards
  • Analytical and creative problem solving skills
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Anti-terrorism training Levels 1 and 2
  • MS Office applications
  • Key duplication and management
  • Operations security
  • Active shooter response
  • Emergency command center operations
  • Access control systems management
  • Force protection

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift or transport objects up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to sit for up to 80% of time
  • Ability to stand for up to 20% of time
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of time

Additional Requirements as per Contract/Client:  

  • United States Citizenship or Permanent Residency
  • Secret Clearance preferred, with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Security Clearance
