    We are seeking a Performance Test Engineer to join our team to support our Internal Revenue Service (IRS) client located in New Carrollton, MD. Our client wants our staff on site providing support at the IRS facility 3 days a week, Tuesday through Thursday, but other 2 days you can work at home! The IRS facility is conveniently located directly across the street from the New Carrollton Metro station!


    The Performance Test Engineer will be responsible for performance testing and troubleshooting across all the components of IRS web applications as a member of an Agile development team.


    *Employment is contingent upon contract award.



    • Analyze application architecture and components to formulate performance test cases and scenarios
    • Set up test environment including application and tool(s) configuration to prepare for execution of performance test cases
    • Generate or otherwise obtain robust data set to be used for performance testing
    • Participate in Agile-based release and sprint planning sessions to gain an understanding of new product features and to determine scope, plan activities, and level of effort
    • Work with other IRS IT teams such as Enterprise Architecture and Performance Engineering to learn about performance-related non-functional requirements and any volume forecasts, using this information to create performance test plan
    • Provide regular status reports, frequency of which depends on the client’s needs
    • Work with developers to troubleshoot and resolve performance issues 
    • Create best practice documentation and quality control procedures for various technologies. This may include implementing new software and educating developers on how to use quality control tools to prevent performance issues. This may also include working with SMEs across technologies to create best practice documentation
    • Ensure adherence to SLAs and performance standards and best practices

    The Ideal Candidate will Possess the Following Additional Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university required; an additional four years of related work experience can substitute for a degree
    • Master’s Degree may be substituted for two (2) years of general experience
    • At least five (5) years of related experience
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze application design to produce performance test cases
    • Demonstrated experience in Performance Testing of web applications
    • Experience working with Agile principles and methods as a team member on Agile scrum teams
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
    • Ability to work well independently or in a team setting 


    Preferred qualifications:

    • Experience with IBM Rational Tools such as Rational Quality Manager (RQM), Rational Functional Tester (RFT) and other test tools such as Smartbear SoapUI and HP Performance Center
    • Experience creating best practice documentation and performance standards 


    Physical Requirements:

    • Work is performed in a general office environment

    Additional Requirements as per Contract:

    • Candidates must meet requirements to obtain and maintain an IRS Minimum Background Investigation (MBI) clearance (active IRS Moderate Risk MBI clearance is a plus)
    • Candidates must be a US Citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident (Green Card status) for 3 years, and be Federal Tax compliant
