  • Responsibilities

    The Scientific Technical Writer/Editor develops and review technical documentation on systems, software, and business/technical requirements using standard templates. The Technical Writer/Editor provides centralized support and review for project documents necessary for the clients and gate reviews.

    Responsibilities to include (but not limited to) the following:
    • Developing user manuals, guides, courses, forms, and/or teaching materials for all phases of IT
    • Managed document control and publication of technical documents for software development and systems engineering projects
    • Compose Standard Operating Procedures, work flow processes, operating procedures, presentation slides, metrics, and status reports
    • Gathers and assembles information pertaining to the subject matter; organizes and condenses materials
    • Edit technical documents supporting weather satellites and ground systems for grammar, punctuation, content, format consistency, and completeness
    • Negotiate changes, identify discrepancies
    • Coordinate peer reviews and management sign-off for technical correctness
    • Publish hard copies, generate Adobe PDF files, burn media, post to elibraries, SharePoint and perform controlled distribution; prepare delivery letters
    • Maintain databases, metadata records, and daily operations supporting elibraries, a 2800 sq. ft. physical library, and controlled distribution
    • Gatekeeper of restricted documents
    • Support ISO:9001 and CMMI Level 3 - 5 certifications
    • Facilities high level meetings, develops and provides a transcription of meetings
    • Work after hours and work at other NOAA facilities maybe required periodically

    • Bachelor's Degree required
    • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, NOAA experience a significant plus
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Project)
    • Preferred knowledge of SharePoint
    • Government experience preferred
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Must be highly detail-oriented
