    Job Summary:
    The Associate Systems Analyst– Software Engineering position is responsible for providing systems analysis for systems implementation and software development projects. This position will work with the business to provide business requirement solutions using MAXIMUS requirements development practices. The Analyst will also develop and manage requirements, create user stories or use cases, write and execute test cases, and provide support for system stakeholders.

    Job Duties/Responsibilities:
    • Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify and document the system level requirements that solution the business requirements
    • Analyze business process flows to generate system process flows and requirements
    • Works with the project team to understand how the present and future business needs may impact the solution
    • Defines functional and non-functional requirements and works with project team to prioritize release scope
    • Contributes to creation of design specifications, user manuals, release notes, end-user training materials, and general system documentation by analyzing business needs and creating or updating systems requirements
    • Updates and maintains requirements documents based on reviews and scope changes
    • Participates in issue triage sessions by evaluating against existing requirements and determines outcome and priority
    • Reports status to team and takes action where appropriate
    • Supports and contributes to the Requirements Development standard practices and procedures
    • Participates in project peer reviews to ensure that requirements development methodologies are followed and the artifact content supports the scoped changes
    • Identifies anomalies and maintains through closure
    • Assists with basic back end configuration changes or data preparation
    • Works with the development team during the design phase to clarify use cases and/or requirements
    • Works with the testing team during test preparation and execution to clarify used cases and acceptance criteria
    • Participates in systems testing activities and, in some cases, UAT activities

    Education/Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, engineering, or a related field; work experience is considered in lieu of degree
    • Strong interviewing skills to talk with individuals and groups about their needs and the ability to ask the right questions to surface essential requirements information
    • Strong listening kills to understand what people are trying to convey and to detect what they might be hesitant about
    • Strong analytical skills to critically evaluate the information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a more general understanding, distinguish presented user requests from the underlying true needs, and distinguish solution ideas from requirements
    • Strong observational skills to validate data obtained via other techniques and expose new areas for elicitation
    • Strong writing skills to communicate information effectively to customers, marketing, managers, and technical staff
    • Strong interpersonal skills to help negotiate priorities and to resolve conflicts among project stakeholders (such as customers, product management, and engineering)
    • High degree of confidence and ability to influence others through strong communication and written skills
    • Ability to perform comfortably in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment
    • Ability to successfully execute many complex tasks simultaneously
    • Ability to work as a team member, as well as independently
    • Ability to travel up to 5% nationally on an as needed basis

    Preferred Experience:
    • Understanding of basic software development life cycle
    • Understanding of the Health and Human Services industry
    • Technical skills experience

    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to sit for up to 80% of time
    • Ability to lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
    • Frequent use of computer, telephone, and office equipment (copier, fax, scanner)

    The Ideal Candidate will Possess the Following Additional Education and Experience

    • Entry Level position within field
    • Requires Bachelors degree related to the assigned work with little to no experience in discipline
    • Works on problems of limited scope
    • Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained
    • Builds stable working relations internally
    • May have additional training or education in area of specialization.
    • Solves routine problems of limited scope.
    • Limited use and/or application of basic principles, theories, and concepts.
    • Individual contributor representing the most common entry point for this career stream.
