    Job Description Summary

    As a part of our digital solutions organization, the User Experience & Front End Development (UX & FED) Lead will be responsible for building and leading a organization that will contain practitioners that cover all aspects of UX research and design and also all aspects of Front End Development. In this role, the ideal candidate for the position will be well versed in both UX concepts and Front End Development concepts, although greater strength in one versus the other is OK and expected.

    The UX & FED Lead provide visionary direction to our team of UX Researchers and UX Designers through all disciplines and phases of the UX Process including user research, information architecture, content strategy, usability evaluation, accessibility evaluation, interaction design, visual design, and more. When it comes to our team of Front End Developers, the UX & FED Lead will also provide direction and oversight of the creation, testing, and debugging of single and multi-page front-end code assets (XHTML, CSS, JS) that take advantage of various frameworks (React, Ember, Bootstrap, Angular, Node, Backbone, etc.)


    The UX & FED Lead is expected to:

    • Mentor, grow, and lead a team of highly talented and motivated UX Designers and UX/Front End Developers.
    • Foster a cross-disciplinary approach that utilizes design thinking concepts and embraces creativity, rigor, and data.
    • Drive a user-centered design culture, innovation, and process improvements up, down, and across the organization.
    • Lead highly collaborative “art of the possible” workshops for both internal and external customers through leveraging of design thinking concepts, brainstorming, and rapid prototyping.
    • Build strong and collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams to launch new products, features, and services on time and within budget.
    • Manage expectations within the team and with clients.
    • Prioritize and help to guide the work of the team.
    • Assist with other tasks and projects as assigned.


    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a creative or technical field. Graduate degree preferred.
    • At least 4 years of experience managing a UX and/or FED team in an agile, preferably SAFe, environment.
    • Portfolio demonstrating extensive experience solving the most complex UX problems and shipping successful, innovative web and mobile experiences for large-scale clients.
    • Exceptional collaboration skills. High degree of creativity, empathy, and passion.
    • Stellar communication skills (storytelling, visualization, use of qualitative and quantitative data) to enlist support for initiatives and ignite enthusiasm to execute. Able to drive clarity on the largest and most difficult projects.
    • Proficient in all of the following, and expert in at least one: Design Thinking, Agile, Lean methodologies.
    • Proficient in all of the following, and expert in at least two: user research, interaction design, visual design, information architecture, front-end development.
    • Deep knowledge about web and mobile UX patterns, best practices, and emerging technologies. Specifically all of: XHTML, CSS, JS; and 3 or more of :React, Ember, Bootstrap, Angular, Node, Backbone.
    • At least 6 years in a consulting or digital agency environment required
    • At least 3 years of experience in a management position in the field
    • Experience working with a distributed team (on/off shore)
    • Experience working in a mixed environment of FTEs and Vendors
    • Experience with Vendor Management
    • Proven P&L responsibilities
    • Domain knowledge of health care, call center, or public sector preferred but not required.


    • Curiosity to learn about new businesses and industries, and ability to quickly grasp and make effective use of industry- and company-specific terminology
    • Solid written and verbal communication skills and leadership
    • Ability to summarize and convey information to stakeholders and sponsors
    • Strong negotiation and objection handling skills
    • Ability to influence others both within and outside of immediate team to achieve results
    • Travel: Ability to travel as required up to 50%. Given the dynamic nature of the team and the need to be responsive to our customers’ needs, some travel may be coordinated on short notice.
